Often described as the 'suntrap of the south'. Eastbourne is an elegatn resort situated on the Sussex coast. The long, tree-lined promenade, colourful gardens and Victorian seafront benefits a town famous for its charm and dignity. This relaxing short break includes excursions to Herstmonceaux Castle, the towns of Rye and Hastings, and a ride on the Bluebell Railway.
Day 1
Travel to your Hotel
today we take a leisurely drive towards the south coast where we will check in to our hotel
Day 2
Herstmonceux Castle Estate and the Bluebell Railway
This morning we visit Herstmonceux Castle, a 15th Century moated castle sitting in a 3--acre estate that includes formal themed gardens and woodlands. in the afternoon, we take a relaxing ride on the Bluebell Railway for the 11-mile journey from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead
Day 3
Discover Rye and Hastings
Today we travel along the coast to the fortified hilltop town of Rye. Once surrounded by sea, rye played an important role in the defence of the south coast of England. There's an opportunity to explore the enchanting cobbled streets, secret passages and beautifully preserved houses from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. in the afternoon we travel the short distance to Hastings, with more passages and narrow streets (called Twittens). A funicular railway can take you from the Old Town up to the castle ruins.
Day 4
Explore Eastbourne and the surrounding area
the last day of this short break is a free day and a chance to explore Eastbourne itself. Perhaps take a boat trip to Beachy Head, visit the Victorian Pier, or simple take it easy, watching the world go by on the Promenade, or in one of the many tea rooms.
Day 5
Return Home
Today we wave goodbye to the coast as we head further inland on our journey home.
